Hutchinson, from North Vancouver, was a student at the State University of New York (SUNY) in Geneseo, and also a volunteer firefighter.

Geneseo N.Y.- Geneseo Police have confirmed that the deaths of three young people inside a Geneseo home early Sunday morning were indeed the result of a double murder suicide.

Colin Kingston was reportedly distraught following a breakup with his girlfriend, 21-year-old Kelsey Annese, when he allegedly stabbed her to death at a home in Geneseo, New York, using a “large knife” on January 17.

He then reportedly phoned his father and confessed to the murders and threatened his own life moments before he stabbed himself, Geneseo Police Officer Jeffrey Szczesniak told reporters.

The three were found dead in a home on Wadsworth Street early Sunday morning after police got a call from Kingston’s father.

Three bodies have been found in a student house in a possible murder-suicide.

Police believe the perpetrator is among the dead.

The bodies of Kelsey Annese, Matthew Hutchinson, and Colin Kingston were located in the residence along with a knife.

Annese and Hutchinson were students at SUNY Geneseo.

Hutchinson took up hockey at age 9 and played defense for the Geneseo Knights, according to his athlete bio.

Police said that this is believed to be an isolated incident, and that there is no risk to the town.

The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, the Geneseo Police Department, the New York State Police, the Livingston County District Attorney’s Office and SUNY University Police Department have all been part of the investigation.

The Buffalo News reported that the 911 call that led authorities to the house at around 6 a.m. Sunday was made by a man who said his son had told him that he had just killed his girlfriend and was going to kill himself.

The name of the father who called to alert law enforcement about the possibility of a murder, has not yet been released to the public by police officials. “He had made some suicidal comments to several people, but there was no actual threats to harm Ms. Annese or anybody else”.

Annese was a senior from Webster near Rochesterwho was a well-known member of the women’s basketball team. She was an Education/Spanish major and a Psychology minor.

The young man was in his fourth year at the school and was studying geography and business.

A memorial for the two slain students has been scheduled for Wednesday night, beginning at 7 p.m., in the SUNY Geneseo gym. She was also a member of the Geneseo women’s basketball team. “He was a guy who you’d say ‘wow, he is really making a difference in the world.’ He is an inspiration for taking on the things he did while going to school full time”. He was not registered for the spring semester but had previously attended the college.

Hutchinson had played hockey since he was a child and wanted to be a firefighter after graduating.
