However, he violated the league’s substance abuse policy several times.

A source with knowledge to the situation told ESPN that the Cleveland Browns wide receiver has filed the application for reinstatement. In this case, he was failed an alcohol test after flying to Las Vegas after the 2014 season with teammates and a former assistant coach.

According to league policy, Gordon could apply in writing for reinstatement within 60 days of his suspension ending.

A focused Gordon could go a long way toward helping a young signal-caller develop, but Cleveland remains at the NFL’s mercy.

The news of his suspension came just one day after the news about Johnny Manziel going to rehab came out last February and was a major blow to the Browns’ receiving corps.

Gordon has done his best to present a positive front during his suspension.

Ability has never been a question when it comes to the talented receiver, but the time has come for Gordon to finally prove he has overcome his demons off the field and become the elite play-maker the Browns desperately need.

CLEVELAND (AP) – Josh Gordon has asked the National Football League for another chance. The former second-round pick out of Utah in 2012 will have to meet with commissioner Roger Goodell as well as the league’s medical director and medical adviser, who will make a recommendation to the commissioner on Gordon’s reinstatement. Former Browns CEO Joe Banner has said that he had a trade worked out during the 2014 season for Gordon, but Jimmy Haslam didn’t approve.

If reinstated, the 24-year-old receiver would be under contract with the Browns for the 2016 season. Basically, the Browns don’t have to worry about paying Gordon the big bucks just yet on a new contract.

His banishment stems from an incident following the 2014 season when he tested positive for alcohol. They do, however, have one on the roster: Josh Gordon.

“And I think that’s what we have to do every player from Josh Gordon to the last player on the roster”.
