Enquiries have been made about the England U21 striker, but the Baggies are yet to receive a concrete offer from any club.
There is even talk within St James’ Park that Newcastle will pull the plug on any more incoming transfers, having already signed Jonjo Shelvey from Swansea City and Henri Saivet from Bordeaux this month for a combined cost of more than £16 million.
Newcastle United have threatened to pull out of moves for Saido Berahino and Andros Townsend after failing to agree a deal, according to reports.
That situation was quickly resolved but Berahino has endured a hard campaign – scoring three goals in just eight Premier League starts – and has been heavily linked with a move away from The Hawthorns in the January transfer window.
Pulis says he does not whether Berahino will leave, and is leaving all the negotiation to Peace.
The 22-year-old would like to go to Tottenham, but it’s Newcastle who have shown the strongest interest.
“The first thing to say is that the valuation will be determined by the (Albion) chairman (Jeremy Peace)”, Pulis said.
But Steve McClaren wants to take Townsend on loan with a view to signing him permanently in the summer, while Spurs’ chairman Daniel Levy will only consider a permanent deal. “The chairman will make decisions, financially”. “He’s not been well, he’s picked up a bug the same as Lambert and a few of the other lads over the past few weeks”.
