The major airlines meant to resume service at all airports throughout the region by Monday, though more than 800 flights have been canceled for then. But it will take some time to recover from the cancellation of more than 11,000 flights during the four-day period from Friday to Monday.
Despite the chaos throughout the country, flights at the Spokane Airport operated smoothly. Operations at Dulles International Airport and DC metro airports are suspended through Sunday “and plan to gradually resume Monday”, the airline tweeted.
United continues to offer passengers the chance to reschedule their flights for later in the week at no charge.
Amtrak has also canceled or cut back on service. As of late Friday night, American Airlines alone has issued waivers for 42 airports. Friday saw 3,100 cancellations, most of which were made by airlines a day in advance.
Airlines had already canceled 600 flights before midnight Saturday.
