Police say it is possible Hutchinson and Annese had been asleep at the time, but Officer Jeff Szczesniak says that is just speculation.
Kingston’s father alerted police, telling them his son “called him from an unknown number” and said he “he murdered his girlfriend…and he’s also going to kill himself”, the Daily News reported.
“There was an altercation that occurred and it was during that altercation that we believe that Miss Annese and Mr. Hutchinson did sustain some fatal stab wounds”.
Annese’s apartment was at the top of a large rental house. He was from a prominent Geneseo family whose farm dates back to 1840.
CNY Central reports there were four other people at the residence at the time of the murder, but did not hear anything.
Cops stressed that there were no signs of a break-in at the off-campus home primarily populated by women’s basketball team members. According to the school, Amnesia was also a student at SUNY, while Kingston was a former student.
“It’s too early in the investigation to label anybody as a suspect”, Geneseo police Officer Jeffrey Szczesniak told reporters at a press conference yesterday. Police say Kingston was the killer. Kingston found her with another student, 24-year-old Matthew Hutchinson, of Vancouver, British Columbia. Kelsey Annese had recently broken up with Kingston.
The house is near the campus of SUNY Geneseo.
The local hockey community is remembering Hutchinson as a hard-working player who always looked to bring a smile off the ice.
Annese is a graduate of Webster Schroeder High School. Kingston was a former student.

Hutchinson played defence with the Chilliwack Chiefs in the 2011-12 season and returned for an alumni game the following year, said Barry Douglas, a team spokesman.
Offered teammate, Kara Houppert of Annese who was the team’s basketball captain: ‘Everyone loved Kelsey. He was a guy who you’d say, ‘Wow, he is really making a difference in the world’. Hutchinson wrote an online commentary for the college about his desire to be a full-time firefighter, including a photo of him dressed in firefighting gear.
Students at the school of about 5,000 were returning to campus after winter break. He listed himself on LinkedIn as an “Aspiring Businessman” and said he graduated in 2013.
A 24-year-old man distraught over his recent break-up sneaked into the bedroom of his college athlete ex-girlfriend and stabbed her and her new boyfriend to death, according to police. On her FB page, there are pictures of her with Colin Kingston.
