Facebook to expand beyond its ‘like’ button ‘pretty soon’

Many have been asking for Facebook to come out with a dislike button for a very long time, Reactions is the closest we’re getting to an actual dislike button. But the feature will probably make Facebook even more addictive.

Within weeks, Facebook users will be able to respond to any post with “sad”, “wow”, “angry”, “love” or “haha” emotions. Everyone we talked said they like the changes.

Facebook as a website has undergone several reiterations since its 2004 launch from founder Mark Zuckerberg‘s dorm room. A bit of a curve for views and stats, but according to the company, over 100 million hours of video are watched on Facebook each day.

If Facebook were a country, it would be more populous than the most densely inhabited nation in the world, China, where access to Facebook is censored by the government.

Facebook has always been teasing something beyond the “like” button, as many users inquire why there can’t be a “dislike” button or a “sympathize” button for when a “like” is not an appropriate response. The new “Angry” or “Sad” buttons are more descriptive alternatives that people should feel are a better representation of their opinion. This metric shows that Facebook still has a lot of room to continue increasing monetization on a global scale if it’s going to bring monetization in different markets to levels closer to those in the US and Canada.

When Facebook’s website has undergone change, its been met with resistance from avid users. “People only get in trouble if they’re not honest about failure”. Originally, six “reactions” were tested (see the above photo), but the “yay” button was dropped because, according to a Facebook spokesperson, it was apparently “not universally understood”.

On Facebook's news feed people will now encounter not only a'likes tally under each post but also separate counts for'loves''hahas and the rest
