Sunday night deadline for 2016 health insurance enrollment

January 31 08:39 2016

Tomorrow is this year’s deadline for signing up for healthcare coverage for this year under the Affordable Care Act, or as it is more popularly known, “Obamacare”.

And even though the deadline is here, it doesn’t mean the federal exchange will be closing.

The Dec 15 deadline brought record traffic to healthcare.gov and led to online and hotline queues.

If you choose not to enroll in coverage, the penalty this year increased to $695, or 2 percent of your income – whichever is greater – and those penalties will come out of your taxes.

“We are anticipating quite a few consumers this weekend”, said Dimick.

The final days of open enrollment for Affordable Health Care in Utah are coming this weekend. If you’re uninsured, the fines are going up.

Many still have concerns that pre-existing conditions will keep them from buying a plan – that’s false, however.

Tatum Allsep, founder and executive director at Music Health Alliance, said her team is combating a lot of misinformation from people who are trying to enroll.

There were 248,387 people across the state who had selected plans as of January 23, according to CMS.

As of January 16th they have assisted more than 50,000 by helping them learn about health insurance, and sign up for free. Independent insurance brokers can help.
