NHL All-Star Game to be hosted at Staples Center

February 2, 2002 – Team World defeated Team North America in the 52nd NHL All-Star Game, Jaroslav Modry and Ziggy Palffy representing the Kings in front of hometown fans.

The NHL is going to California for the 2017 NHL All-Star Game.

The move had been intimated some time.

For the All-Star Game to not fall to the likes of the NFL’s Pro-Bowl, this rule makes the NHL All-Star Game better because of it. The NHL made the official announcement Saturday before the 2016 skills competition in Nashville. Outside of the 3-on-3, the All-Star Game will feature four different teams based on the divisions across the league, with the two teams in the east playing to decide the Eastern Conference champion while the west does the same for the Western Conference.

“The Los Angeles Kings and Staples Center will serve as the respective host team and venue for the 2017 NHL All-Star Weekend, Commissioner Gary Bettman announced Saturday during a press conference“. The game will be held on Sunday, Jan. 29. This means so much.

It has been set to be Los Angeles’ third time hosting the midseason showcase and first since 2002.

First we’ll have two semifinal mini games, then the winners play another 20-minute game for a grand prize of $1 million. Further details on the 2017 NHL All-Star celebration, including ticket information, special events and television broadcasting information will be released at a later date.
