Microsoft said it would push Windows 10 upgrades onto people’s PCs much harder this year – and Redmond has been true to its word.
Microsoft has just released a cumulative update for Windows 10 Mobile insiders that upgrades devices to version 10586.71 and brings a number of performance improvements and bug fixes. Now, at the tour’s conclusion, BIO-key reports that 40 percent of attendees engaged with the company, curious about its biometric scanners. “This event provided us in Jordan with an excellent opportunity to ride this wave, spreading knowledge on what sets Windows 10 apart and encouraging its adoption locally”, said Microsoft Jordan Country Manager, Hussein Malhas.
The redesigned user interface of Windows pushed many Microsoft clients to roll back to the stable and popular Windows 7.
Six months after its release, Windows 10 has finally passed 10 percent market share. The Mac devices have gained significant traction over the years, as they captured Microsoft’s customers. Cullen observed that “there remains a lot of loyalty to Windows 7 and it will be interesting to see if it becomes the equivalent of XP, which, 14 years after launch, refuses to lie down and still has an 8 percent global share in terms of desktop Internet use”.
This is a change from the previous categorization of the upgrade as an “optional update” and it means that there is renewed potential for unwanted installations. The company plans to do the same throughout with the announcement of its plan of Windows as a service, which will get better with every update.
These numbers are largely thanks to Microsoft’s aggressive strategy to see all users on legacy OSes upgrade to Windows 10, making the OS free, and prompting users on older OSes to download it as soon as possible through desktop popups.
Despite its big lead over Windows 10, Windows 7 did drop from 55.6 percent in December to 52.47 percent in January, a signal that users are upgrading to Windows 10. PC users switch faster to Windows 10 than they did to Windows 8.
Microsoft says users will still get a prompt asking if they want to accept or decline the upgrade. Microsoft Edge, Windows’ new browser, allows people to quickly browse, read, mark up and share the Web, while Cortana, the personal digital assistant, makes it easy to quickly find the right information at the right time.
