Wilshire has yet to kick ball in anger this season after breaking his leg during training on the eve of August’s Community Shield clash with Chelsea.
The 24-year-old’s career has been plagued with ankle and foot injuries since he made his Arsenal debut at the age of 16 and he has only once played more than 25 Premier League games in a season. I’m cautious but I will say four weeks [until he is back].
The French boss, however, denied reports that Jack Wilshere had suffered a setback in his recovery, and assured that the England worldwide is expected to return to action within the month.
‘He is looking food and I have spoken to Roy Hodgson about him to reassure him he’s progressing well.
“I will play quite an experienced team”, he said. “If Lionel Messi knocks at my door at ten to six tonight I will not say please go back to Barcelona…”
Tomas Rosicky came off the bench to make his first appearance of the season, but it was reported on Sunday that the injury-prone midfielder faces a month on the sidelines after suffering a thigh injury on his comeback.
Rosicky was undergoing a scan on Monday to determine the extent of the problem, and Wenger said he was still hoping for good news. “I observed him, he’s very conscientious Tomas, he did sprint and sprint, and sprint”. But when he told me after the game that he did it [get injured] straight away I understood why, what happened to him.
Arsenal could sanction a couple of exits with Aston Villa hunting Mathieu Debuchy and Serge Gnabry drawing interest from two Championship clubs.
“Jack is starting to run”, said Wenger. It’s Christmas, we always go to Southampton at the Christmas period.
