Klopp gives up on Teixeira on quiet day at Liverpool

“It’s not that we haven’t got money or anything, but you have to work respectfully and responsibly”.

Jurgen Klopp has given up hope of bringing Shakhtar Donetsk attacker Alex Teixeira to Liverpool before the transfer deadline.

Liverpool chief executive Ian Ayre has been reluctant to meet Shakhtar’s valuation and a summer move is now more likely.

Liverpool were hopeful with the player wanting to make the move there could be further developments, but the Miners have refused to budge, insisting the Reds pay Teixeira’s release clause of £53m.

“I am not 100 per cent sure about outgoing transfers”, he added.

That’s because Shakhtar don’t need to sell, have just tied Teixeira to a new deal, and want to keep hold of their star player. The German coach says players could yet leave but is certain he is finished in the market following the return to fitness of four player including Daniel Sturridge. “That is the situation”.

Christian Benteke has been poor, while Divock Origi and Danny Ings are injured.

While Klopp states that there won’t be any more deadline day signings, it’s quite possible that players might be leaving in this period.

They feel they let Costa go too cheaply to Bayern Munich for £24m and view Teixeira key to their attempts to win back the title from Dynamo Kiev, with both clubs level on points at the top of the Ukrainian league. “But, you call it terrible defending but it wasn’t”. We said, “We can’t play this game until the end”. “It is clear we can defend them better, so now hopefully we don’t have to talk about it any more”.
