Tech Times previously reported back in October 2015 that Netflix was considering a “Gilmore Girls” revival, but nothing was set in stone at that point.
– All three Gilmore girls are returning: Graham’s Lorelai, Alexis Bledel as Rory and Kelly Bishop as Emily.
Gilmore Girls ran for seven seasons on the WB from 2000 to 2007. Well it’s officially become a thing after Netflix and Warner Bros – not to mention the show’s stars – confirmed its return.
This is the latest United States series to return to the small screen following the likes of Heroes (revived as Heroes Reborn) and The X-Files, with original cast members David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.
Netflix and Lorelai Gilmore, herself, Lauren Graham, finally broke their silence this afternoon by taking to Twitter to announce the big news.
The popular streaming service said the reboot of the series, created by Amy Sherman-Palladino, will feature all-new episodes.
The “Gilmore Girls” Reunion will comprise of four 90-minute episodes, with each episode representing different seasons over the course of a single year. And best of all, most of the original cast is on board.
“From Stars Hollow to Hartford to New Haven to Netflix“, the caption reads. The announcement was accompanied by a shout-out to the show’s original creator, Amy Sherman-Pallandino, who will be helping to make this follow-up production possible.
However, Melissa MCCarthy, who featured in the show as Sookie St. James, is unlikely to be returning – her career has skyrocketed since the show ended, with starring roles in Bridesmaids, The Heat, Mike & Molly, and the upcoming Ghostbusters reboot. Television President and Chief Content Officer Peter Roth told the site, teasing he knows what the show’s final four words will be. “That’s very important…If it ever happened, I promise you we’d do it correctly…It would have to be the right everything – the right format, the right timing, the right way”. “I’m excited to see where the characters are now, and find out where and how they develop”.
