Mazda is recalling 264,463 CX-5 crossovers in the USA for fuel leaks, the company said in a statement. The Japanese automaker filed a safety defect report with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration regarding a faulty pipe in the CX-5 models. A rear-end collision might rupture the pipe, which could then begin leaking fuel. Autoblog reported that any concerned owners should contact their dealer, and may be eligible for a free loaner or rental auto until repairs can be made.
This is the second recall for Takata inflators in 2004-06 B-series trucks.
Thankfully, Mazda says that it knows of no accidents or injuries linked to the problem. In Ford’s case, the Ranger had been recalled to replace the driver-side inflators in Florida, Puerto Rico, Hawaii and the US Virgin Islands, however the death occurred in SC. The automaker has been forced to recall until now the 2003-2008 Mazda6, 2004-2006 B-Series, 2006-2007 Mazdaspeed6, 2004-2008 RX-8 and 2004 MPVs.
In total, Mazda said it has issued recalls for 442,266 driver-side inflators and 416,475 passenger-side inflators.
