Public safety and school district officials found nothing suspicious when they search Lexington High School on Monday, Feb. 1, after the school’s front office received a bomb threat. Rogers High School and the grounds were searched extensively and there was no evidence of any suspicious devices.

“Once it is deemed safe they will return to the building”, police said.

Five Canberra schools were evacuated on Tuesday after a series of a bomb threats, believed to be part of a concerted global school bomb hoax.

Police are investigating whether there is any link between today’s threats and a co-ordinated series of phone threats to schools in other states.

The Department of Education and Child Development released a statement a short time ago saying the schools had been evacuated.

More schools across Sydney have been evacuated for the fifth consecutive day as police warn about hoax calls from overseas.

“Consistent with our response protocols and the Massachusetts Bomb Threat Response Guide, we determined this is a low-level threat and undertook a sweep of the building”, Piwowar’s letter said.

He said Tullawong High was the final school to receive the threat yesterday morning.

The Quashnet and Coombs Schools were not affected and were dismissed at their regularly scheduled half-day time.

The school department sent out an automated call to inform parents of the situation.

“The appropriate response is being made at a site-by-site level”, the department said.

A teenager in the ACT has been arrested following a threatening call made to a Canberra high school.

“There is nothing amusing about a threatening phone call that causes unnecessary distress, fear and use of valuable police resources”, Detective Acting Station Sergeant Marcus Boorman said today.
