Ben & Jerry’s releases dairy-free ice cream

Vegans, keep an eye on your freezer case-Ben & Jerry’s is jumping on the bandwagon with a new line of dairy-free ice cream.

Over the summer, Refinery29 reported that Ben & Jerry’s customers have been requesting this variation for years, and the brand was finally able to make their dreams a reality. & Cookies. Whether or not you have a good reason to drown your sorrows in a pint, there’s always the “but they’re vegan!” argument.

Though Kirsten Schimoler, the company’s “flavor guru”, acknowledges the difficulty of creating new flavors with a non-dairy base, she claims success: “We wanted to bring the same fun with all of the creamy, funky, and chunky swirls plus the Ben & Jerry’s flavor excitement to our Non-Dairy fans and we nailed it!” The Chunky Monkey, while a very solid dessert option, had the most almond milk characteristics, tasting thinner and a bit grainer than traditional diary ice cream. The brownies for the chocolate fudge brownie, for example, come from the Yonkers-based Greyston Bakery, which provides jobs to low-income residents.

The others are based on best-selling flavors, Chunky Monkey and Chocolate Fudge Brownie.

New-comer PB & Cookies sounds like a dreamy mix of vanilla with chocolate sandwich cookies and crunchy peanut butter swirls.
