Pro Bowl ratings continue to decline

February 04 20:03 2016

Many of the NFL’s best have descended upon Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii to take part in the 2016 Pro Bowl, and Sunday’s game should bring a new feel to a traditional event. CB Desmond Trufant played a significant amount of snaps, but Team Rice stayed away from his side for the majority of the game.

Team Irvin got into the end zone before halftime on a 2-yard pass from Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater to Eagles running back Darren Sproles. Watching him run around a bit and just sort of chuck it was interesting enough to watch, but very little can be taken seriously from a results standpoint because of the nature of the Pro Bowl.

As for Team Irvin’s leader in Hall of Fame wide receiver Michael Irvin, he is now 2-0 as a Pro Bowl team captain and coach. His Team Irvin and Seahawks teammate Michael Bennett, who had the game’s only sack, was chosen the defensive MVP. Team Irvin is loaded with talent with Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and the NFL’s leading receiver this past season, Falcons’ Julio Jones.

Tampa Bay running back Doug Martin had a short touchdown run, and Buffalo Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor connected on a touchdown pass to Miami Dolphins receiver Jarvis Landry in the fourth quarter.

It’s a small, and mostly unwanted, consolation for Seahawk players selected to play in the NFL Pro Bowl.

The second-year quarterback completed six of eight passes for 129 yards.

It marks the third year in a row that the NFL’s All-Star game won’t be played between teams consisting of players strictly from the NFC or AFC. Bridgewater also threw Team Irvin’s lone interception of the evening when he was intercepted by rookie Marcus Peters in the first quarter. Every single quarterback who suited up for Team Irvin threw for over 100 yards and two or more scoring tosses.

Team Rice also struck first to open the game on a 10-play, 75-yard drive engineered by New York Giants quarterback Manning.

Cincinnati tight end Tyler Eifert appeared to injure a foot during the game while diving for a pass for Team Irvin. With 8:55 left in the third quarter the score moved to 28-21.

“I really got all the emotions out of the way a few weeks back, but this one is just the icing on the cake for me to be able to make the Pro Bowl, be able to bring my family over here and hang out in Hawaii”, Woodson said.
