Microsoft now downloading Windows 10 automatically on older machines

The latest rumor came with a major surprise when it was revealed that the Mi 5 will be released with a variant that would run Windows 10 Mobile.

In doing so Windows 10 now only sits behind the Windows 7 that enjoys a whooping market share of 52.5pc. Previously the update to Microsoft’s latest operating system was marked as an “optional update” which required manual approval of users. This is higher than the 9.96 percent it copped in December. However, unless users make the final decision to hit upgrade, Windows 10 will not completely install and replace their existing Windows versions. Thanks to being well received by critics and free to install, Windows 10 has seen 200 million downloads in 2015, according to web analytics firm StatCounter. This means that if you haven’t upgraded yet, you’re going to go ahead and start the process.

The day of reckoning has arrived for everyday Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users around the globe. Microsoft strongly recommends allowing automatic updates. “These can be installed automatically”.

Microsoft is ramping up its push to get Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users to upgrade to Windows 10.

In the case of Windows 10, users will be “clearly prompted to choose whether or not to continue”, before the process completely changes the operating system of their device, Microsoft assured users in a blog post in October.

And once you upgrade to Windows 10, you might be ceding control over future upgrades to Microsoft. Those activated will automatically be installed on your computer, without you doing anything. Then select “change settings” on the left menu, and make sure to uncheck the box below “recommended updates“.

Microsoft keeps a backup of your system for a month.

With the new change in policy, those domain-joined PCs possibly can get this upgrade app. It can happen if Windows Update is set to deliver updates automatically. Despite the fact that Microsoft stopped supporting updates for Windows XP in 2014, more than one in ten computers are still sticking with the 14-year old operating system.

You are also required to stay alert because even if you have adopted manual updates you may still end up downloading Windows 10 anyway.
