Explosives threat one of many in Avery case

February 05 20:00 2016

A person called the station and said that there were bombs planted throughout the building and the parking lot, TMZ reported.

“They want to know if they’re going to be okay and we want to tell them that answer is yes, but with these continued threats we can’t make that for certain”, said inspector Gregg Schetter with the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Department.

Authorities deemed the area all clear around 9 p.m. Wednesday. Police say there is no connection to the case of Steven Avery, reports WAOW.

A second “very similar” threat was received about 20 minutes later, the statement said.

Avery and his nephew, Brendan Dassey, who were convicted in 2007 of killing freelance photographer Teresa Halbach, have gained supporters worldwide since the December 18 release of “Making a Murderer“.

A Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy and his sniffing K9 partner joined Manitowoc Police, Two Rivers Police, and the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s office in the response, sweeping for explosives.

“The same voice, same type of call that indicated that, there was a bomb in the building and that there would be, ‘huge massacre tonight, ‘” Zimney said.

The Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigation is now working to determine the identity of the hoax caller.

Thursday, Manitowoc police officers were conducting business as usual.

“Manitowoc Police take these types of threats very seriously not only the safety of employees of the agencies involved, but also for the safety of the citizens of Manitowoc and the inmates now incarcerated in the Manitowoc County jail”, the city’s police department said in the statement.

One one occasion, the called vowed to ‘ get justice for Steven ‘, the star of the show who many believe was wrongly convicted of murder.

The threats were called in around 7pm and 9pm.

Still, the heightened attention on Manitowoc has continued.
