The 20-pound pub was found sleeping in a booth Thursday morning at The Marine Room, reports NBC 4.
Hilarious photos were shared on Facebook by Bernard Guillas, who is the Executive Chef at The Marine Room.
“Maybe [she] thought we were open for high-tide breakfast, but we weren’t”, he said.
The pup was eventually rescued and taken to San Diego’s SeaWorld.
This year’s strong El Niño conditions could be a factor in pup stranding, since changing weather can affect food availability, and prevent mother sea lions from eating enough to produce milk for their young.
The Cave Store in La Jolla posted a video on Facebook on January 21 that showed a sea lion inside the store.
Mr Guillas, who has overseen the restaurant for 21 years, said the sea lion entered through the restaurant’s back door after making her way up from the beach alongside the building.
“He said there was a sea lion in the dining room”, Tovar said in a telephone interview Friday.
Rescuers say they cautiously optimistic about the pups recovery and say it will likely stay in captivity until he reaches a healthy weight. It is now being cared for at SeaWorld’s Animal Rescue Center in San Diego.
“A micro-pup. Very small in body length, and very malnourished”. The pup apparently made her way into the restaurant overnight and then wandered over to a booth with an ocean view before falling asleep. “We told (her) to come back for the weekend”.
