Windows Insiders in the Fast and Slow rings will continue to receive builds from the Development Branch, but the Release Preview ring will offer access to Current Branch builds shortly before they make their way to “real world” users via Windows Update.

Thew new “Release Preview Ring ” lets you stay on the current branch of Windows, while getting early access to updated applications, drivers, and other improvements. Microsoft also announced a new ring for insiders.

Microsoft has just rolled out a new Windows 10 Mobile build for insiders in the fast ring, thus delivering a new set of fixes for devices that are now running this early version of the operating system. That means users who want to be at the bleeding edge of public updates to Windows 10 will sometimes find that things they rely on are broken until a new update gets released.

Which ring you choose depends on how desperately you want to try out new builds – it’s safe to say Fast ring releases aren’t really suited for use on your main PC.

Windows 10 1511 debuted in November. Given recent changes to the Insider program, this one works more like Fast did originally.

As rumored, this new version is Windows 10 Mobile build 10586.107 and it contains three major bug fixes, including a patch resolving a bug “where in some cases a device could be missing tiles on the Start screen after going through the device out of box experience”, as Gabe Aul, head of the Windows Insider program, explained.

Ever since Windows 10 was widely released to testers early a year ago, the company has provided Windows Insiders with two “rings” in which to test the operating system. Update history will, however, make it a bit easier for IT professionals and power users to track down the occasional faulty update or ones that cause incompatibilities with mission-critical or proprietary software. Microsoft is increasing the pace of new builds, and new bugs will arise as a result.
