Paltrow told the court that she felt scared while at home with her children and had been forced to get an attack dog, capable of “attack” and “bite” commands, to protect herself and her family. He was sent to a mental institution instead, where he stayed for several years and then released.

Paltrow told the court the letters made her “very upset”.
“You are hopelessly lost”, he wrote to Paltrow in a 2010 letter.

The recent batch of letters described Soiu’s intention to marry the actress as well as a pair of earrings he sent her in 2009 as a Christmas gift, some second-hand clothes and a Weight Watchers cookbook.
Testifying in the trial of Dante Michael Soiu, 66, Paltrow said she has “been dealing with this for 17 years” and feared for her safety and her children’s safety.
In defence, Lynda Westlund, Mr Soiu’s lawyer, said her client was harmless.
Deputy District Attorney Wendy Segall said that Soiu has shattered the mother-of-two’s sense of security.
Soiu pleaded insanity when he faced trial in 2000 in another stalking case against Paltrow. He spent three years in a psychiatric facility, but was re-arrested in 2015 after sending more letters to her.
