Two Republican U.S. presidential hopefuls said during the New Hampshire debate on Saturday they would implement quarantines of travelers if necessary to stop the spread of the Zika virus – a virus that is carried by mosquitoes, not humans.
Health officials say OH has a second Zika virus case, involving a 21-year-old Stark County man who traveled to Haiti.
The Zika virus is spreading rapidly through Latin America. All cases were travel related except for one.
“We will be looking to see if there is any transmission of this virus during our mosquito season here in Delaware“, Rattay said.
As part of a stream of foreign researchers and regulators arriving to the South American nation in the coming days, representatives from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration will meet with their Brazilian counterparts to ensure that clinical testing of the vaccine can take place as quickly and smoothly as possible.

“Zika is new, and new diseases can be scary, particularly when they can affect the most vulnerable among us”, Frieden said during a hearing with the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
What Does the Virus Do?
There is now no cure or vaccine for the virus which, in most people, causes mild symptoms. In fact, approximately 80 percent of people who become infected never experience symptoms. There is also a potential link between Zika and Guillain-Barre Syndrome, a rare disorder in which a person’s immune system damages nerve cells, causing muscle weakness and sometimes paralysis. The syndrome is an immunological reaction that can also occur after other viral or bacterial infections. This is the same type of mosquito that spreads dengue fever.
But it seems the state’s southeast is not entirely free of the bugs with data from the federal Department of Agriculture revealing that the Aedes mosquito has been detected in Brisbane on seven occasions from February to December past year.
“The arguments for sharing data, and the consequences of not doing so, have been thrown into stark relief by the Ebola and Zika outbreaks”, the document stated. And hope the worldwide health organizations understand the urgency to get this outbreak under control.
