Celebrating the world premiere of fashion comedy “Zoolander No. 2″, Ben Stiller whipped out an 8.56m (28ft 1in) selfie stick and broke a world record in the process. “I was always excited to play Hansel again, because of the characters I’ve played, that was one that people would come up to me about and quote lines, like, “Who are you tryin” to get insane with, ese?”
Hansel tries to recruit Zoolander back in the game because celebrities like Bieber are being hunted down. Instead, he gradually became aware after meeting fans and seeing hashtags #BlueSteel and #Magnum on social media (referring to signature poses of his vapid character, Derek Zoolander, a male model-turned-unwitting-assassin). As in Adam and Eve… and Steve.
“And if you don’t know how to harness that energy, it’ll work in reverse”.
Derek is called back into action by a Donatella Versace-esque Kristen Wiig, reuniting him with the similarly exiled Hansel. Someone is killing all of the lovely pop stars – including Justin Bieber – and the Interpol Fashion Division (a.k.a. the Fashion Police) are on the case, led by Valentina Valencia (Penelope Cruz). Melanie is more like Austin Powers’ Vanessa Kensington, wearing skin-tight and revealing outfits and acting more like a Vogue cover girl than a serious global police agent.
The new film will feature celebrity cameos from a number of famous designers and fashion industry players, among them Marc Jacobs, Tommy Hilfiger, Valentino, Alexander Wang, and Anna Wintour.
“We found a gladiator school to send Quinn to”, said Stiller.
When Kiefer Sutherland is the funniest person in your movie, you have a problem. At least it’s still easy to kind of like Derek and Hansel. There’s no use spoiling the cameos, they’re the most fun “Zoo 2” has to offer. Meanwhile, actress Jennifer Aniston showed up to support her beau, Justin Theroux. But for the preceding hour and 40 minutes, “Zoolander 2” is a really, really, ridiculously hot mess.
