Toronto Rapper and Raptors International Ambassador Drake has been given the keys to the city by Mayor John Tory.
Vrbanovic says “Transit drives innovation and innovation drives economic growth….Now is the time to lead not only the province, but the country in creating a high quality of life, and a strong and competitive economy”. “It was a team effort”.
The game MVP, though, was Win Butler of Arcade Fire fame.
“Respect to Drake. Respect to Team Canada”. The rapper paced the sidelines, channeling his inner Dwane Casey with clipboard in hand. Organizers said that Drake will also “be adding his own special touch” to the NBA All-Star player introductions on Sunday.
“Soon as I’m back in the city they throw a parade”.
In a statement issued on Thursday he added that “he deserves our city’s recognition and our pride and I’m honoured to give him the Key to the City”.
Tomorrow I’ll give out the Key to the City.
Of course, Drake, a.k.a. Aubrey Drake Graham, was already one of the focal points of the all-star weekend.
Tory got a little cheeky on the social media platform saying he was going to write a twitter essay about the recipient and he was going to “start it from the bottom”.
Tory said he believes the key to the city should be given to those who make residents feel good about themselves and Toronto. “I want these moments to inspire us as a city to send a real message; Toronto can do great things”.
