AT&T To Test 5G Wireless, 100 Times Faster than 4G LTE

February 14 20:02 2016

Rather than measure connection speeds in megabits, the new technology will bring in the gigabits terms. Field trials are expected to start in Austin, Texas, by the end of the year. On a 5G network, you could download the latest “Star Wars” film in seconds, not the minutes needed on today’s networks. When it finally makes its way to the market and devices start connecting to it, customers will see up to 100 times the internet connection speeds they’re now getting on a wireless network. AT&T also admits this and says that it is waiting for the official 5G standards that are to be released in 2018 and then it will make new strategies as per the environment. AT&T will work with Intel and Ericsson to deliver the new standard but it has not said how fast it expects its network to be. Companies are also working on improving security with 5G network.

We’re conducting our 5G trials in such a way that we’ll be able to pivot to compliant commercial deployments once 5G technology standards are set.

Cell towers will eventually pump of AT&T and Verizon’s 5G network, but it’s not clear when, yet.

One of the most promising methods of delivering 5G wireless is a combination of MIMO and carrier aggregation. However, the large mobile networks across the globe, including South Korea, China, Europe and the United States is stepping forward to launch the network sooner than others. Some estimate that the network could be available by 2020, though it will not be rolled out until industry standards are written. With more and more people using LTE, we’re seeing slower speeds, seeing as there’s not enough bandwidth in many areas for these carriers to use.

The coverage of 4G technology is still lacking in some regions and customers aren’t ready to pay too much for data. A redacted public FCC application said AT&T will experiment over the next three years with various wireless spectrums for voice, video, and data signals for 5G innovation. Countries have developed their own definitions of 5G, but there has yet to be any global consensus on what it means. This can be seen to be in response to Verizon’s claims made in September previous year that it is bracing up to offer 5G speeds when the service is eventually initiated.

A 5G connection could greatly boost the speed of your phone.

“5G is no longer a dream of the distant future”, said Verizon chief information and technology guru Roger Gurnani in a statement prepared at that time. Verizon is working in partnership with Alcatel-Lucent, Cisco, Ericsson, Nokia, Qualcomm and Samsung to get the next generation of wireless networks off the ground.
