Clinton, Sanders clash over Obama as they vie for minority votes

Generally, that’s a solid strategy, given the President’s high ratings with Democratic voters. Now more CBC members are stepping attacks on Bernie Sanders.

Long viewed as the overwhelming front-runner in the Democratic race, Clinton has been caught off guard by Sanders’ strength, particularly his visceral connection with Americans frustrated by the current political and economic systems. Yes, Sanders backers say theyre frustrated with a system they believe is rigged for the wealthy.

After her heavy defeat at the hands of Bernie Sanders in New Hampshire, Hillary Clinton is turning to voters in SC for salvation in her bid to become the Democrat nominee for president, with a message that is blunt and laden with pulpit admonition. “So I think they hide behind a little bit of innuendo”, John Podesta, the chair of Clinton’s campaign, told CNN on Thursday night.

After a bruising defeat in New Hampshire’s primary, Hillary Clinton is targeting black voters to reignite her sputtering campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Clinton – who entered the race previous year as the presumptive front runner with sky-high polling numbers – fought to reestablish her dominance after Sanders’ landslide victory in the New Hampshire primary earlier this week.

“He was never a Democrat”.

But Julie Pace of The Associated Press said Nevada could be an exception. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), who is perhaps the whitest person to ever run for president in American history. Vermont is ninety-five per cent white, and early in the campaign Sanders’s rallies were only marginally more diverse. Both spoke to a large crowd at the annual Colorado Democrats dinner with the Colorado caucus less than a month away. Earning an equally loud applause, Clinton said, “If fighting for equal pay and women’s rights is playing the gender card then deal me in”. Nearly a third of South Carolinians are black, as are more than half the state’s Democratic-primary voters. And in SC, things are getting ugly.

And, indeed, that was precisely what Sanders seemed to say in the fifth Democratic debate. But like Obama before him, Sanders has failed to make central the one change that could make his revolution credible: changing the way congressional campaigns are funded. And she continued to closely align herself with President Barack Obama, who remains popular particularly with black Democrats. “I consider that a triumph for Bernie even if he’s not the candidate”.

Sanders also was reaching out to minority voters by appearing at a conference in Minneapolis on race and economic opportunity.

Ellison said he sought out Sanders when he came to Washington because he sat on the Financial Services Committee and “made friends with him”.

Trippi and Rabin-Havt both said online fundraising works best when donors feel their candidate truly needs the money. “If I asked Hillary, she’d just say what’s convenient”. Meeks said Sanders doesn’t have a lot of African-American surrogates on his side at this point. I in no way am saying you must vote for her because she’s a woman any more than I would say vote for Carly Fiorina or Sarah Palin.

They share the same essential values and genuinely champion the middle class. The difference is that Sanders, the rebellious democratic socialist, would be going into battle outnumbered in pursuit of his domestic agenda and poorly equipped in foreign affairs.

Sanders responded, “You and I may have disagreements because it’s not just black, it is Latino, there are areas of America, in poor rural areas, where it’s white”.

Ta-Nehisi Coates, an influential writer on racial issues, drew attention to the issue recently in an Atlantic Magazine essay entitled “The Case for Reparations”.

“Madam Secretary, that is a low blow”, said Sanders, a US senator from Vermont.

“Eight years ago when you voted for Barack Obama did you do it because of what he told you was not possible?” Or did you vote for him because he said, “Yes we can’ and projected a bold vision?” That is what’s happening right now. “And this is not the first time that he has criticized President Obama”.
