Police question man in shooting of officer

February 14 21:00 2016

Now authorities are questioning the man they believe pulled the trigger.

Cpl. Couch has been with The Clarksdale Police Department since December of 2011. He is married with at least one child.

He serves in the Community Police Division, Special Operations Division and Patrol Division.

The officer was chasing an armed robbery suspect when he was shot, officials said.

Couch is still listed in critical condition.

He says all three men are African-American.

When the officer went to the store, he encountered the men, who had stolen money from the register, according to the affiliate.

Both suspects were in the custody of the Clarksdale Police Department by Sunday afternoon.

Sources say the suspect was on a tirade, tearing apart a vehicle in the driveway and got into a violent fight with the mom’s boyfriend. He said the bullet is lodged inside Couch’s head. Couch confronted one of the fleeing robbers four blocks from the store when he was shot.

A father turned his son over to authorities for the shooting of a MS cop critically wounded after a robbery Saturday.

Couch, a former narcotics officer with Tunica County Sheriff’s Office, was hospitalized 71 miles north of Clarksdale, at the Regional One Health in Memphis, Tenn., where he remains on a ventilator. Couch was found on the street outside a convenience store that had been robbed late Saturday by two masked men.
