Weather: Storm to bring snow, wintry mix, rain

February 14 23:21 2016

It still will be cold though, with a low of about 8 degrees.

The dreaded change because it gives forecasters a headache and disappoints snow lovers. In fact, through Monday evening, the snow will be transitioning over to rain from the south into the north.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 15.

The dangerously low wind chills could lead to frostbite and hypothermia, if precautions are not taken. Northwest wind 7 to 10 miles per hour. The clear skies over the Northeast gave a spectacular view of “cloud streets” over the Atlantic Ocean and of the snow pack over the land. Sunday and Sunday night snow totals of 1 to 3 inches are expected. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent.

As for the mountains, snow and sleet will accumulate a coating to an inch before the switch to ice; perhaps enough ice to bring down some tree limbs and power lines.

We could see up to 2 inches by Monday morning, but that snow could also mix with sleet and freezing rain to create a mess out on the roads. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New ice accumulation of less than a 0.1 of an inch possible. That rain could be heavy at times – especially Tuesday afternoon and evening – which means flooding may be an issue, especially for areas with significant snowpack and/or ice-blocked storm drains. High: 30. Winds: SE 5-15 miles per hour.

Tuesday: Rain, heavy at times.

This Sunday morning dawned bitter cold after a night when temperatures bottomed out in the single numbers (+4 Charleston, +9 Huntington) in most cities and subzero in many rural areas in Central WV and OH (-2 in historic Marietta-Parkersburg, for example). Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.

Tuesday: Mostly Cloudy. Rain Likely (90%).

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 38. If it wasn’t the President’s Day Holiday with the government closed along with most schools, the impact would be far greater.

Tuesday night: Mostly cloudy, with lows of 38 to 53.

Total precipitation forecast through Tuesday

Weather: Storm to bring snow, wintry mix, rain
