Atlanta mayor hits Sanders on race relations claim

Before the contest began, over 100 protesters from the Black Lives Matter movement descended on the campus demanding a $15 per hour minimum wage, a central plank of the Sanders campaign but not Clinton’s. Florida Sen. Marco Rubio needs to do better than his New Hampshire fifth-place showing.

Clinton was flanked by civil rights icon U.S. Rep. John Lewis of Georgia, who told worshippers their vote “is the most powerful nonviolent tool in a democratic society”.

This is the second American Crossroads ad during the Democratic primary. “Race is not a sober-minded description of peoples”.

However, Tennessee also has a high number of undecided Democrats – 26% – and among registered voters, Clinton’s negative ratings are the highest in any state. We don’t know yet. “We believe in her”.

The Clinton campaign is trying to ensure that in SC, which holds its Democratic primary in two weeks, it achieves the kind of lopsided victory that Mr Sanders did in New Hampshire.

Clinton has always been an important political figure in this country. It has an awkward old white man from Vermont to try and sell black voters on. What in Bernie Sanders’ record makes you think he’d be better?

Campaign strategy is often based on the voter file, which can tell a campaign everything from where they need to turn up more supporters to what areas they can consider strongholds – or weak points.

“Sanders is painting a picture of what ought to be in his view and Clinton is painting a picture of what she thinks can be done”, UW-Madison journalism professor Michael Wagner explained.

MARTIN: A relationship, though – a history that includes a loss in SC to Barack Obama.

We rated her statement Mostly True. But Obama won, 56.1 percent to 41.6 percent.

The mounting negativity is driven in part by the anxieties of the Clinton campaign. “There are a lot of people whose careers evaporated”.

Jennifer Palmieri, Clinton’s communications director, struck a similar tone: “Have you seen a Republican debate?”

Even before last week’s launch, the Clinton network has been busy in North Carolina. This time around the two halves of the Obama coalition are on a collision course.

On Friday, he picked up the endorsement of South Carolina’s former first lady Iris Campbell, a long-time Bush family ally. Kay Hagan of Greensboro, former Govs.

And Clinton appears to have significant support among Democratic voters.

In late January, Clinton was leading in SC with 64 percent support to Sanders’ 27 percent, according to a NBC/Wall Street Journal/Marist poll.

And yet, Clinton still has trouble capturing the vote that Albright seems to think should be inherent.

Clinton also used the opportunity to launch a veiled attack on her Democratic rival, telling the crowd “I’m not a single-issue candidate, and this is not a single-issue country”.

In her concession speech Tuesday night in New Hampshire, Hillary Clinton vowed to supporters and a national television audience that “Wall Street can never be allowed to once again threaten Main Street, and I will fight to rein in Wall Street”.

Fredrick C. Harris, professor of political science and director of the Center on African-American Politics and Society at Columbia University, said it was highly unlikely black voter turnout would be as high as it was four years ago.

MARTIN: NPR’s Sam Sanders in SC. But Hall countered that Sanders is not exactly a fresh face, having run for office 22 times.
