Officials say doctors should ask pregnant women about their travel and certain symptoms, and, if warranted, test them for an infection with the Zika virus.

The University of Sao Paulo said it was monitoring 3,000 pregnant women as part of research into a link between Zika and microcephaly.

Dr. David Hughes said cases of pregnancy aside, the Zika virus usually results in a mild infection, and 80 percent of those infected often do not get serious symptoms.

But she said it was the second time this year a Victorian had been diagnosed with the virus and the fourth case in three years.

“That’s why the department is doing everything it can to help this woman and to ensure this woman receives support and that care is received”.

Health experts suggest any pregnant woman who has travelled to countries with the Zika virus should see a general practitioner immediately.

Two American women who contracted the Zika virus while traveling overseas suffered miscarriages when they got home, federal authorities said Thursday.

“We simply do not have the mosquito vectors known to transmit from one person to another”, he said.

Redd, the director of the Office of Public Health Preparedness and Response, says CDC teams are deployed right now all over the world. There have also been reports of Zika spreading by sexual contact and blood transfusion, the release said.

A county resident tested positive for the virus, the Putnam County Department of Health said on Friday in a released statement.

“I advise all Nigerians, particularly pregnant women, to avoid travelling to countries infected by this virus in these periods”.

The confirmation comes after a pregnant woman in the northern state of Queensland was diagnosed on Tuesday with the virus suspected of causing a surge in brain-damaged babies in Brazil.

Health officials said the patient has fully recovered since the case was reported in the past week. Some of the recommendations and actions will be similar to the city’s approach to combating the West Nile virus, which may include spraying mosquito breeding areas.
