The Florida Lottery held a press conference Wednesday afternoon to announce the winners of the historic $1.58 billion Powerball jackpot from the January 13 drawing.
“It is scary and unknown”.
70-year-old Maureen Smith and 55-year-old David Kaltschmidt are taking the lump sum payment of about $327.8 million before taxes.
“We are not going to go partying”, she said.
The couple said they have been playing the same lottery numbers for years and didn’t see the drawing live. “You think about what is going to happen because we are no longer in a quiet place”.
“They are numbers that I played for years that I very rarely play”, Smith said, according to the Orlando Sentinel. Florida Lottery Secretary Tom Delacenserie said they should receive the entire jackpot within two days.
Asked about the first splurge they wanted to make Smith said Kaltschmidt wants a new auto and she wants a massage.
They said they frequently shop at the Publix at 3830 Highway A1A in Melbourne Beach, where the winning ticket was purchased.
John and Lisa Robertson of Munford, Tennessee, cashed in their ticket last month, also taking the lump sum.
Now, Florida couple Maureen Smith and David Kaltschmidt have stepped forward to collect their winnings. The other tickets were purchased in Florida and Tennessee, and the winners have claimed their portions of the jackpot.
