Police and community members remain perplexed by a brutal family attack inside a CT home – an incident that ended when a police officer shot a 51-year-old husband and father to death, authorities said.

Christopher Andrews, according to witness reports, hit his 12-year-old son in the face and then attacked his 13-year-old daughter. The older son managed to wrest a baseball bat from his dad and ran outside, where cops ordered the boy and his dad to stop in their tracks. His wife and children were located at various spots around the property.

Kathleen was in stable condition at Bridgeport Hospital.

Christopher Andrews’ youngest child, a 12-year-old boy, remains in critical condition with extensive head injuries, Lt. James Perez said Wednesday. The other children were taken to St. Vincent’s Medical Center. The Chief says a confrontation ensued between a person at the residence and an officer. The officer discharged his firearm, striking Andrews.

The state Department of Children and Families is now involved, Lyddy said.

Neighbors have described the Andrews family as “nice” and “quiet” and have expressed shock at the incident. Authorities are interviewing the children in hopes of understanding what occurred inside the home.

“It’s terrible, just very bad”, Jeff Vogt, a neighbor, told the Courant.

According to police, Andrews did not comply with officers’ orders and advanced toward the law enforcement officials – leading them to shoot. He was pronounced dead shortly thereafter at Bridgeport Hospital. He reportedly grew up in Queens and graduated from St. John’s University in 1992.

Police said the victims all had blunt trauma injuries and stab wounds.

The officer who shot the man also was taken to a hospital for observation, police said.

The circumstances of what may have led up to the attack weren’t immediately clear.

Fenton is now on administrative leave while state police detectives get his account of what happened. “Investigators from the Stamford State’s Attorney’s Office responded to the scene and are also assisting with the investigation”.
