The latest action, for 2.23 million vehicles, reveals just how much Honda, a longtime partner of Takata and the automaker most affected by the defective air bags, continues to be haunted by them.

The recall also covers several Acura models: the 2005-2012 Acura RL, 2009-2014 Acura TL, 2010-2013 Acura ZDX, 2013-2016 Acura ILX and the 2007-2016 Acura RDX, according to a Honda press release issued late February 3.

Unfortunately, Honda has reportedly told dealerships that parts are in very short supply until this upcoming autumn, and so for now it will order the replacements for cars with airbag troubles or crash damage.

DETROIT (AP) – Another problem has developed with automotive air bags, this one resulting in recalls of up to 5 million vehicles worldwide. At least 11 people have been reported dead worldwide, and 139 injured from the problem, according to Forbes. Replacement control modules will be available to Honda owners in the fall.

In documents posted Thursday with USA regulators, Continental said it received a control unit from Daimler in January 2008 after a vehicle owner complained the airbag warning light had illuminated. Fiat Chrysler’s recall affects 112,001 vehicles; Mercedes-Benz’s involves 126,260.

Meanwhile, an analyst thinks that the Continental air bag recall can’t be compared to the Takata air bag recall, mainly because fewer vehicles are impacted by Continental’s recall.

The NHTSA opened an investigation in August after a complaint of a crash in a 2008 Accord in which the air bags did not deploy. Continental was first made aware of the problem in 2008 and made multiple changes to its control units in the following years, Reuters reported.

“This also means that the safety of the vehicle passengers and operators are in jeopardy and potentially face serious injury or death”, another complainant wrote.

On Tuesday, U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal and Edward Markey urged NHTSA to recall all cars with Takata inflators.

Honda plans to replace all of the recalled inflators with new parts.

Honda said the most up-to-date consumer information about the recalls can be obtained at www.recalls.honda.com and www.recalls.acura.com, or by calling 888-234-2138. “While about 28 million of these inflators have been recalled to date through vehicle recalls, a staggering 26 million remain in vehicles not yet recalled”.
