Ferrari expressed optimism regarding a potential title challenge on Friday at the unveiling of their new vehicle for the 2016 Formula One world championship.
Ferrari [NYSE:RACE] is the second major team to show off its vehicle for the 2016 Formula One World Championship.
While Vettel added: ‘We had a fantastic year last year – obviously my first season with the team – and we all want more. “I know so much about this auto, but everything on paper – numbers, aerodynamic values, and what everybody has been telling me, and now to see it all come together last night in the factory”.
A shortened nose, a tapered rear end and an intriguing red-and-white livery are the signature features of the new SF16-H.
Also present at the online launch were team principal Maurizio Arrivabene, drivers Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen, chief designer Simone Resta and power unit director Matteo Binotto. At least we would like to fight until the end for the championship. “It won’t be easy because our competitors haven’t been sleeping, but we are committed to do our best”.
Scuderia Ferrari has a record of 16 constructors’ F1 championships in history won between 1977 and 2008.
“We tried to move all the accessories and encumbrances, but we did not only work on architecture we also tried to improve combustion, for example, and also the turbo”.
Generally, the new vehicle is narrower and tighter compared to last year’s challenger. “Previous year was a decent step forward and we hope this auto will be another good step forward, another step to make us properly competitive”. “This is the first step forward and we made very important technical choices”.
It will make its first public appearance at pre-season testing in Barcelona next week with Briton Hamilton due behind the wheel on Monday and Wednesday, and Rosberg driving it on Tuesday and Thursday. ‘It’s been working very well. “We won’t know more until we get to the track”.
