Arsene Wenger has admitted he could have been sacked as Arsenal manager had his side not won the 2014 FA Cup final against Hull – the same side they face in the fifth round of this year’s tournament.
Wenger will now be hoping Koscielny and co. will be able to return to match fitness as soon as possible with just twelve games to go in the Premier League. “I’m convinced that all the clubs can compete with the number of games you have to play and there’s no real need to change the rules”.
Wenger was hopeful Laurent Koscielny will be fit to play on Saturday after the defender suffered a dead leg in Sunday’s 2-1 league victory over Leicester City. We will play a strong side. It’s not something that I want to harp on about but we’ve been dealt a hard one with television requirements and ten games in 33 days is a ridiculous schedule for any club.
Wenger revealed the positive news during this week’s press conference.
Arsenal’s tie with Hull, their third FA Cup game against the Championship side in as many seasons, will mark the 66-year-old’s 100th game in the competition.
The Gunners boss is expected to rest some of his big names for the FA Cup clash, with a Champions League tie against Barcelona coming up on Tuesday night.
Hull certainly go into this match full of confidence having gone top of the Championship thanks to a good run of form that has seen them win five of their last seven games, losing just once.
Wenger again pointed to the financial restraints he worked under for years after the team moved into the Emirates Stadium, saying: “We had half the resources of the other clubs, we had to sell our best players and we had to stay at the top as well”. With Arsenal chasing Leicester in the title race he could still play a vital role in Arsenal’s campaign in the last few months of the season. “This is the most traditional competition in England, let’s leave it how it is”. The best way to prepare for Barcelona is to beat Hull tomorrow.
“I never forget the decisive moments in the game”.
Hull manager Steve Bruce, however, has made it clear that he will make significant changes to his side as they prioritise their attempts to gain promotion to the Premier League. I was surprised, yes (in United’s interest).
