Cowboys’ Gregory gets 4-game suspension for substance abuse

The NFL has suspended Gregory for for the first four games of the 2016 season, according to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport.

Gregory is eligible to participate in the Cowboys offseason programs, as well as training camp, preseason practices, and preseason games.

A failed drug test hurt Randy Gregory’s stock in the run-up to the 2015 NFL Draft, and substance abuse has reared its ugly head in his career once again. In 12 games as a rookie, he recorded seven solo tackles and no sacks.

With the Cowboys waiting for Hardy to get back from suspension, they face a similar situation that they faced this past season.

The Cowboys are not expected re-sign troubled defensive end Greg Hardy, but in the wake of Gregory’s suspension, the Cowboys will need to bring in a defensive end and perhaps that could be resigning Hardy.

“We believe we have the right kind of environment here with the Cowboys”, Garrett told NFL Network after the team used their second-round pick on Gregory. Owner Jerry Jones has been banking on sketchy players since the 90′s, this is nothing new to him. It’s not clear what the substance in question actually was, but Gregory has a history with marijuana. “And I know it sounds cliché, but there’s really no one else I can blame”.

With Gregory’s suspension, the Cowboys’ questions on defense continue to grow. He played far less than many expected but the Cowboys had other talent along the defensive line.
