LG 360 VR and LG 360 CAM

This might be attributed to a lower than ideal refresh rate, or simply due to the fact that the LG 360 VR is running off a smartphone and not a supercomputer.

LG G5 presents as the world’s first flagship smartphone to feature a modular design. On top of that, LG is one of the most prominent brands in the tech world, so this development is quite expected.

Despite looking great in pictures, the device itself feels a little on the cheap and flimsy side, with the eye adjustment dials especially feeling a bit low-end (one of them got stuck on one setting while I was using them).

That’s not to say it’s not comfortable – it’s very comfy.

But our shaky demo experience illustrates just why it’s taken the Oculus Rift four years to go from Kickstarter to commercial product and why the best VR headsets need to be plugged into high-end PCs. But only until we have had our hands on it, can we truly tell.

Inside the LG 360 VR are dual 970×720 OLED displays (639 PPI) that are both independently focus-adjustable.

It’s hard to know if the 360 VR is actually any good, since the unit on display didn’t really work. I can see the future!

Regarding content, it will support 360-degree images, videos and anything else the Google Cardboard can offer.

Unfortunately, not every aspect of the 360 VR is flawless. The images will also be available to view on the LG 360 VR or other smartphones and devices capable of showing 360-degree content. The camera is equipped with two 13MP 200-degree wide angle cameras, is battery powered, and has 4GB internal memory with room for a supplementary microSD card.

LG 360 CAM – The two-sided portable consists of two cameras that can be controlled via your phone and a camera lens that can be mirror-viewed on the phone too as it is easily connected to the LG G5.

How does it stack against the Gear VR, then? Images taken with the 360 CAM can be uploaded to Google Street View and YouTube360. This detracts from the immersive experience, and requires ramping up the brightness to make up for it. There is also a considerable amount of motion blur whenever the user rotates their head, to the point where it can be disorienting to use.

Although exact details about pricing and availability remain unknown, AT&T just confirmed that it will carry the LG G5 on its network, and has already fired up the “coming soon” page dedicated for the G5 on their official website. Hopefully, it’ll be competitive to the $99 Gear VR.
