Yesterday, Sanders downplayed, Clinton’s win in the Nevada caucuses, her first pronounced triumph, as she grabbed up about 53 percent of the vote to Sanders 47 percent. Clinton is now leading Sanders by as many as 29 points there according to recent polls, which is perhaps why the senator omitted to mention the state in his concession speech on Saturday afternoon.
Clinton also has the support of dozens of so-called “super delegates”, including members of Congress, whose votes count extra.
Though Clinton installed staff on the ground last spring, Sanders’ message of combating income inequality appeared to resonate in a state where many voters are still struggling to rebound after years of double-digit unemployment.

“If you’re running for president of the United States, you can’t just tell people you’re going to make America great again”, he said, referring to Mr Trump’s campaign slogan. An Associated Press survey of superdelegates, who are influential in picking the nominee, found that 449 of the party insiders back Clinton, while only 19 support Sanders.
She capitalized on a more diverse Democratic electorate who helped her rebound after a second-place finish to Sanders in the New Hampshire primary.
Sanders is trailing Clinton by more than 20 points in the next Democratic primary state, South Carolina, by a wide margin, according to a RealClearPolitics average of polls.

A Sanders victory would undercut one of Clinton’s major campaign arguments: that the Vermont senator largely appeals to white liberals, a relatively narrow swath of the Democratic Party. She wanted to prove she could fight off the Sanders surge and give her campaign some sense of momentum before SC and the first multi-state “Super Tuesday” primary on March 1st.
One caveat: the numbers above are based on early exit polls.
Those areas of strength for Sanders point to a problem for Clinton – convincing voters of her empathy and honesty – that has dogged her throughout the race and continues to challenge her, particularly among younger voters. “I am very proud of the campaign we ran”, he said. As Sanders pointed out, he was never the favorite to win in Nevada.
Ultimately, there is no way to ever know for sure who won the Hispanic vote because official voting results don’t break down votes by race. “We all want to get secret unaccountable money out of politics”, Ms Clinton said.
