China’s leading smartphone maker, Xiaomi, has unveiled its new flagship device, the Mi 5, which it says is particularly fast and lightweight. A second version, called Mi 5 Pro which is the fully-specced version with 128GB of storage and the ceramic back, and is available for RMB 2699 ($413 USD).
A teaser video released by Xiaomi Vice President Hugo Barra shows that the Mi 5 will be offering incredibly fast performance. The phone is also quite slim at 7.25mm and weights 129 grams.
Other specifications in the handset include a choice of either 3GB or 4GB of RAM and a range of storage options from 32GB up to 128GB. The battery support Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 and according to Xiaomi you can go from 0 to 80% charge in under a hour. On the front is a 5-inch 1920×1080 resolution display, which keeps the dimensions to a reasonable 139.26 x 70.76 x 7.8mm and the phone weighs just 133g. The front-facing snapper is of 5-megapixel. The Xiaomi Mi 5 powered with Snapdragon 820 will be available in two variants, a 32 GB storage model with 3 GB of RAM and 64 GB model with 4 GB of RAM.
Xiaomi Mi 5 design: The Mi 5 design borrows a lot of elements from the Mi Note launched past year. Finally the special ceramic edition has 4GB of RAM/128GB of internal storage, and a 2.15GHz Snapdragon 820 processor and is priced at CNY 2,699 (around $413, £295, €375, or Rs. 28,320).
Xiaomi’s decision to hold an event in Barcelona has certainly piqued our curiosity. One of the best features of the smartphone is that it carries support for microSD card slot, a feature that was not provided on the Mi 4, Mi 4i and Mi 4c smartphones. Most LTE phones in the market today come with Cat 4 LTE which does not allow for carrier aggregation, and has a technical limitation of 150 Mbps download speed.
It comes in color options like black, white, gold and pink.
The Mi 5 runs Xiaomi’s MIUI interface on top of Android, and comes with weekly software updates from Xiaomi’s community.
