For Ted Cruz, Texas primary is win or bust

Ted Cruz leads Donald Trump by 15 points in Texas, a new poll shows.

-Republicans will award 595 delegates in 11 state races, with 1,237 delegates needed to clinch the nomination. Of the 155 delegates, 108 are allocated across 36 congressional districts. To win the nomination, Cruz will somehow have to go from having 13 percent of the delegates to a majority of them in the next three months. Winning more than 50 percent of the vote statewide would net him 47 delegates. Honestly, I suspect if Cruz got half the endorsements and positive media coverage as Marco Rubio, it would be a two man race between Cruz and Trump by now.

“On the immigration and border issue, you will not find anyone stronger than Ted Cruz as far as being able to effectuate real results”, he said.

Mr. Cruz will be relying heavily on suburban and exurban areas, pollsters say, hoping to excel in regions with many large conservative churches.

The event is free to attend.

Also on the “Today” show, Rubio said most Republicans don’t want Trump to be their nominee for president. And given the delegate math, he could walk off with a sizable chunk even in defeat.

Trump, who has leveled his harshest attacks against Cruz, once again knocked the Texan on Wednesday, saying Cruz is “changing his stance” on immigration to better compete with Trump, who has struck the harshest tone and some of the most hardline positions on illegal immigration.

Clinton encouraged AKA sisters to “see if we can’t find a handful of Republicans who understand and will do their duty, who believe they are called by the Constitution to do just that”. “Rick Perry and Jerry Patterson went to Texas Agricultural and Mechanical”.

Cruz has a wide lead over Trump among Texas evangelicals, 42 percent to 28 percent. “The last thing I’m anxious about is how we’ll do in OH”, he said Tuesday.

Still, even detractors seem to agree that he has governed as he campaigned for the Senate in 2012: as a champion of conservative principles who views compromise with suspicion. “I think we’re doing very well”, Trump said, adding that he is “looking forward to a good week next week” when a cluster of states vote in the Super Tuesday primary contests on March 1. Although almost one if five voters said the Supreme Court vacancy was the most important factor, Trump bested Cruz among them by 19 percentage points. “Cruz spends relatively little time and energy working for the direct interest of Texas alone”. I’m not someone who can tell you exactly what’s going to happen.

Nevada was supposed to be a must win state for Rubio – his “firewall”.

Nevada is an overwhelmingly urban state.

Others have been less equivocal.

Donald Trump’s popularity drops just a bit outside major cities, with Senator Ted Cruz picking up the slack. Not only is Trump steadier and stronger than most thought he would be, Cruz is not a winsome personality.

At his own rally, though, there was at least one skeptical voice. Rand Paul, who grew up in a nearby suburb?

Cruz got a boost Wednesday with the endorsement of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott. “But that’s not going to matter here as much as in the SEC states”.
