Grassley says no hearing or vote on Supreme Court justice nomination

In a letter released on Tuesday, Rear Admiral and Supreme Court doctor, Brian P. Monahan, stated Scalia had been dealing with several issues effecting his health.

Dow said in a statement, that likely changes to the Supreme Court following the death of Justice Antonin Scalia was likely to make it harder for it and other companies to win such cases. Comparing the situation to a 1944 Supreme Court decision upholding President Franklin Roosevelt’s creation of Japanese internment camps, Breyer said the court has fallen more on the side of habeus corpus, the Constitutional right to seek relief form unlawful imprisonment.

Dow was found liable in 2013 by a Kansas jury of allegedly conspiring to fix prices for polyurethane, an industrial chemical used in everything from packaging to vehicle interiors.

The weekend he died, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia was spending time with members of the Order of St. Hubertus – a society of hunters founded in the 1600s whose members are knighted on behalf of the king of Spain.

The politics surrounding the vacancy on the U.S. Supreme Court may threaten the notion of judicial impartiality. The court appeared closely divided following November’s oral argument, meaning it potentially could be split 4-4.

Scalia wrote the court’s majority decisions in both cases – and in favor of the businesses. The Comcast ruling was 5-4.

In fact, she has crossed the aisle to help confirm more than 100 of President Obama’s judicial nominees.

Obama then offered some “some spoiler-free insights” into the qualities he’s searching for in the person he will nominate as the next Supreme Court justice.

As early as Monday, the court could say whether or not it will hear a case involving Direct Digital LLC that class action lawyers are watching closely.

According to the United States Constitution, it is the president’s job to appoint a new justice with input from the Senate.

Since Scalia’s death, Republicans in the Senate have vowed to keep the seat vacant until the next president is elected, denying President Obama the chance to chose a nominee.

It’s unclear if Scalia had an official tie to the group, and Poindexter – who previously offered up the detail about the justice being found with a pillow over his head – made sure to phrase that in the most suspicious way possible.
