Peyton Manning to Retire

February 27 20:00 2016

Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning jokes with reporters after an NFL football practice at the team’s headquarters, Thursday, Jan. 28, 2016, in Englewood, Colo.

Peyton Manning is saying goodbye; it’s been lots of fun.

Patrick Smyth, the Broncos vice president of public relations, tweeted that Manning will continue talks with the team this week.

In his column, Paige said he’s been told Manning will “acknowledge his decision by the end of this week”.

The Post’s longtime columnist Woody Paige, citing two sources, reported Saturday (Feb. 27) that Manning will be announcing his retirement this coming week.

Fresh off his second Super Bowl win and 18th full season (19, including the year he missed at the end of his time with the Indianapolis Colts), Manning will go down as one of the NFL’s greatest quarterbacks, and players, ever. If Manning wants to keep playing, he would likely have to restructure his contract with the Broncos or the Broncos would release him to sign with another team.

But Manning said after the Super Bowl he wouldn’t rush into an emotional decision, and there has been no news from him since then. He’s the NFL’s only five-time MVP and the all-time leader in passing yards and touchdowns, among other records.
