ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) – Stephen Curry scored 51 points and set an National Basketball Association record with a 3-pointer in his 128th consecutive game as the Golden State Warriors beat the Orlando Magic 130-114 on Thursday night.
Curry, who leads the National Basketball Association in scoring (30.4 points per game), had 42 points over 34 minutes on Wednesday in a victory over the Miami Heat.
Curry notched his third 50-point haul of the season as the Warriors remained 3-1/2 games clear in the fight over the NBA’s best record ahead of San Antonio, which won convincingly at Utah.
These are fun(ny) times to cheer for Stephen Curry and the Warriors. Golden State doesn’t seem very bothered and might just laugh its way all the way to another championship.
Despite putting together an overall good performance together against, potentially, the greatest team of all time, the Magic weren’t able to overcome Curry’s historical night. And I remember hearing what his number was. You see it night after night. Curry has now hit at least one three-pointer in 203 out of his last 204 games, with the only blemish being a November 11, 2014, loss to the Spurs.
It was one of those nights of absurd shooting, where the opposition couldn’t help but just shrug at the ludicrous shots that were falling against them. He’s only 21 away from first place, a record he set previous year.
The Warriors improved to 52-5, the best 57-game start in league history.
“He’s doing things that nobody has ever done before”, Kerr said, in reference to Steph.
Big words from a big (6-foot-7) 15-handicap.
Quote: “Are you guys surprised? To me, we just have to continue to play and not really think much about it”. Curry is not going to tolerate it anymore.
This is the power and allure of Steph Curry. Steve Kerr accurately described what shooting is like for Curry compared to anyone else in the league. Those Magic fans who spent hundreds of dollars to buy a ticket Thursday knew that Curry was going to play and they knew they were going to be thisclose to greatness. First, Stephen Curry says all the talk is “annoying”. Curry looked at him with a raised eyebrow.
“I wish (my golf swing) was as consistent as my jumper”, Thompson said.
The nervous youngster got his autograph, as have plenty of others. He mastered several tough exercises, focuses on one-legged routines for extra balance, and he can now dead-lift the second-highest weight on the Warriors. “But we hit a lot of screens tonight and kind of died on them”. Robertson said he believes the Warriors’ success stems largely from the modern style of play which forgoes defense, and the latter duo said their respective former teams (2006-07 Warriors, 1993-94 Suns) could have beaten Golden State.
“When you have the juice, enjoy it”, Wade said. Of his FG attempts, 13 came from behind the arc and an ungodly nine of them went in, including a casual 44-foot heave to close out the third.
