Lindsey Vonn Suffers Hairline Fracture In Knee After Crash

The young woman who claimed her first World Cup victory last Tuesday during the City Event in Stockholm took her chance, doing a good last section with a huge speed to take the lead.

PAUL MINNESOTA, U.S: World Cup leader Lindsey Vonn damaged her left knee as she crashed out of Saturday’s super-G race in Andorra in a heavy fall and was taken off the slope on a sled after receiving medical attention next to the course.

The 31-year-old Vonn is a two-time gold medalist in the World Championships, and she won gold and bronze in the downhill and super-G, respectively, at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

Vonn posted a picture of her scan on instagram and said: “So the MRI shows a pretty substantial fracture in my tibial plateau”.

Chasing her fifth title, Vonn is leading the overall World Cup standings, 23 points clear of Lara Gut of Switzerland.

Gagnon led Wendy Holdener of Switzerland by 0.20, and Anne-Sophie Barthet of France by 0.61 for her second career win.

Around the end of January, Gagnon was home visiting with family and friends, and said she had an opportunity to step back and realize “I had to have fun in what I’m doing”.

The Olympic skier had been racing in hard conditions due to snowfall on Saturday when the injury occurred. After her run, she posted a tweet saying: “no one can ever call me a wimp”.

According to Fox 9, Vonn was more than halfway finished with the run and in the lead when she crashed.

Vonn was unable to stand and was taken away down the slope on a ski-stretcher to be taken to an Andorra hospital. “It’s like insane, I can’t believe it”, the Italian said.

He clocked a combined time of 2:43.88 to win with the top two in the overall standings coming in behind him.
