Ohio pastor shot, killed during Sunday services

Several Dayton police cruisers are on scene and blocking traffic at Nancy Avenue and Keturah Drive as an investigation into a reported shooting gets underway at the St. Peter’s Missionary Baptist Church.

Witnesses say they heard a couple of shots fired while the choir was singing, and it quickly became chaos when everyone took off running. He faces a murder charge on Monday, said Sgt. Richard Blommel. Family members said he suffered from mental health issues, but neither police nor people close to the victim said they knew what his possible motive was.

“We were still having church services when he started shooting, and everybody ran”, a woman said in a 911 call recording obtained by CNN affiliate WHIO.

A male who authorities say was wielding a broomstick was shot and critically injured by Salt Lake City officers Saturday night, touching off unrest downtown as officers donned riot gear and blocked streets and bystanders… An autopsy is schedule for Monday, according to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.

He was a teacher in the Dayton school district in the 1970s and served as a principal in the Jefferson Township district for almost two decades, according to the Dayton Daily News.
