Coyotes make pair of minor league deals after Boedker trade

February 29 21:59 2016

The 26-year-old Boedker has had another fine season for the Coyotes, posting 13 goals and 39 points in 62 games. The 19-year-old Wood has registered 8-27-35, a plus-10 rating and 14 PIM in 40 games with the North Bay Battalion (OHL) in 2015-16. Avalanche G Semyon Varlamov, who has yielded four goals in each of his last two contests, turned aside 60-of-63 shots to split his last two meetings with the Wild.3.

The Boston Bruins have picked up veteran defenseman John-Michael Liles from the Carolina Hurricanes. Tanguay has struggled this season, scoring just four times (including one last weekend in the outdoor game at Coors Field).

Both Bleackley and Wood are not under contract and therefore the Coyotes will have some decisions to make regarding their future.

Defenseman Kyle Wood, on the other hand, was thought to be a darkhorse prospect for the Avalanche. A point-per-game player in the CHL, Bleackley fell out of favor with the Avalanche organization after underwhelming in training camp. Boedker is considered a power play specialist with terrific speed.

Colorado Avalanche left wing Alex Tanguay, center, celebrates his goal with left wing Gabriel Landeskog, left, and defenseman Nick Holden, against the Detroit Red Wings during the third period of an NHL hockey game at Coors Field on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016, in Denver. He was the 23rd overall selection by Colorado in the 2014 draft.

General manager Tim Murray was expected to be active before the National Hockey League trade deadline with several players in the final years of their contracts on the block.

The Flames will also get forward Brett Pollock, a second-round pick by Dallas in 2014.

What brought a smile to GM Don Maloney’s face was that the Chicago Blackhawks traded for soon to be free agent Andrew Ladd of the Winnipeg Jets.

The Stars are competing for the top spot in the Central Division, and they needed help on the defensive side to complement their outstanding offense.

The Stars hope Russell can provide the depth they need among defensemen. Winnik signed a two-year deal with Toronto in the offseason and didn’t expect to be dealt until the 2016-17 season.

Allen, 26, has 11 points (two goals, nine assists) in 48 minor-league games over two stops this season.

Robertson, 24, had five goals (two goals, three assists) in 37 games for the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL.

Plotnikov, 25, has registered two assists and 20 penalty minutes in 32 games with the Penguins this season.

The current road trip has not gone as planned, with the Arizona Coyotes losing the first four of a five game trip, after losing to the St. Louis Blues at home before heading out on the road.
