Judge in Prince’s estate case authorizes DNA testing

District Judge Kevin Eide, who is overseeing the settlement of Prince’s estate, ordered that a blood sample be taken from the late singer’s body “for any objective relevant to the administration of the Estate”.

A federal judge in Minnesota has authorized Bremer Trust, National Association to have the late music legend’s blood tested for DNA. It’s clear Bremer is expecting alleged family members to come out of the woodwork to get a slice of Prince’s fortune.

Let the blood feuds begin.

Prince Rogers Nelson, 57, died Thursday, April 21 at his home at Paisley Park.

The court’s decision is likely a move to head off any future claims against the singer, such as claims of being an heir to Prince’s vast estate.

The testing will take place at DNA Diagnostics Center.

Prince’s six siblings and 10 attorneys gathered on Monday morning for a 12-minute hearing at the Carver County courthouse to confirm Bremer Trust will remain his estate’s special administrator.

The Carver County Sheriff’s Office released records Tuesday that included two separate calls from women who claimed Prince was the father of their child. The final word on the cause of death is pending further testing but investigators are looking into whether prescription painkillers played a role. A further five half-siblings have been named in court documents.

The estate has to separate the legitimate relatives from the scores of people coming forward, many of whom may be frauds or mistaken, before it can fairly distribute the assets of Prince’s estate.
