Battlefield 1 is set in alternate WWI, releases in October

Could Battlefield be starting an actual, sequel-based series with continuity between episodes? The announcement of the new Battlefield comes hot on the heels of the reveal for Activision’s new Call of Duty.

As is customary with the majority of Battlefield games, Battlefield 1 will allow players to get behind the wheel of several vehicle types, including tanks, airplanes, and even horses.

Battlefield 5 is expected to drop for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC later in 2016.

Just before that, the official Battlefield Twitter account answered a few questions, saying: “You’ll learn whether it’s set in the past in the very near future, Mars”.

The competition is taking the opposite approach: This year’s “Battlefield” game is heading back in time, to World War I! You will be able to play Battlefield 1 five days early on Xbox One thanks to EA Access as well as on PC thanks to Origin Access. Dice’s goal with Battlefield 1 was to create the largest, most dynamic battles ever.

The company is expected to outline the name of the next Battlefield game, its setting, its release date, and more during the live stream.

During the Battlefield 1 World Premiere we also got the debut trailer, which EA executive vice president Patrick Soderlund said all footage within was captured in-engine, which is incredibly impressive considering how good it looks. The game is now set for an October 21st, 2016 release on the PS4, Xbox One and PC and we’re already counting the days. The materials also confirm a release date of October 18, 2016.

Battlefield 1 marks a major shift for the franchise, which had been immersed in more modern combat with its last release, Battlefield 4.

“The Regiment consisted of African-Americans and African Puerto Ricans and was known for being the first African-American regiment to serve with the American Expeditionary Forces during World War I“. The posters show that instead of going with Battlefield 5, the game will instead be called Battlefield 1.

The Western Front will feature, along with the Arabian desert.

According to DualShockers, the recent trailer for the livestream features a character wearing similar clothing to World War 1 soldiers, which reinforces the speculation on the possible World War 1 setting of the next game.
