The Russo Brothers Talk About Bringing Black Panther To The Big Screen

The situation aligns him politically with Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) but puts T’Challa in battle against Captain America (Chris Evans). Fortunately, Marvel Studios handles the Black Panther’s debut exceptionally, when a conflict between teams led by Iron Man and Captain America gives the Black Panther a reason to leave his Wakandan borders. “He’s fresh eyes to their arguments and relationships (and) an equal with some of the power players, but has his own point of view about what’s going on”.

The Black Panther isn’t merely a black superhero; he’s the black superhero.

The directors did not really plan on giving the Black Panther much screen time, but they changed their mind in the end because they wanted to establish a proper introduction to his character. Stan Lee famously said that “every comic book is somebody’s first” as a reminder that these things need to be accessible, and anything that makes ongoing titles with a whole lot of history easier for new readers to pick up and get immediately is a good idea.

Shortly after seeing Civil War, I sat down with Paul Bettany and Chadwick Boseman for a video interview. It’s especially noticeable (and fun!) when he’s pitted against grounded heroes like Falcon, Cap, and even Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man.

“You could be having a great time with him at a party, and all of a sudden he disappears and no one knows where he is”, the actor says with a laugh. But, apart from the fact that he is played by Chadwick Boseman and seems to have a penchant for drop-kicking the Winter Soldier in the face, most people know very little about him.

I love these characters. He’s poised to break out big, since he’s not only starring in one of this year’s biggest potential blockbusters, but he’s also slated to reprise his role in his own Black Panther movie and at least four other Marvel movies (presumably, that includes the next Avengers sequels, Infinity War – Part I and Part II).

Warning: spoilers for Captain America: Civil War’s post-credits scenes continue below.

Fans have been excited to see Black Panther for a while now and his slick costume will be a massive hit with kids and toy collectors; heck, if you want a head start on Halloween you can buy a Black Panther costume right now. Could this mean we will be seeing the Black Widow alongside Black Panther in his upcoming solo movie which will be released sometime in 2018?
