The United Nations Security Council has expressed concern over the terror group’s links to ISIS and is calling the summit a “crucial initiative”.

“Britain and Nigeria, with support from the US, France, and its neighbours, are making progress in degrading Boko Haram, but we must maintain the momentum to win the war, and build the right conditions for post-conflict stability in the region”.

Abuja: Boko Haram remain a threat despite “impressive” military gains against it, French President Francois Hollande said on Saturday, as regional and Western leaders gathered for talks on the Islamist threat.

“We’ve seen that Boko Haram’s ability to communicate has become more effective”, he said.

Those responsible for “these abuses and violations of human rights and violations of global humanitarian law must be held accountable and brought to justice”, the presidential statement said.

His promises came as he arrived in Abuja, Nigeria for the Regional Security Summit.

“We know that it is not just 219 missing schoolgirls, that Amnesty Internatioinal estimates there are more than 2,000 women and children who have been abducted by Boko Haram”, said freelance journalist Anna Cunningham, reporting from Lagos.

The summit – two years after a first such high-level gathering in Paris – comes as Nigeria’s military pushes deep into Boko Haram’s Sambisa Forest stronghold after recapturing swathes of territory in the northeast.

Lake Chad forms the border between Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad and Niger.

“During this victorious assault which led to the complete destruction of three Boko Haram camps, a notorious warlord of the terrorist group by name Boubar Akaou was captured, alongside five of his crime mates”. Detaining children, with or without their parents, is common in Nigeria.

The team had a fierce fire fight with some Boko Haram terrorists elements in which the troops killed quite a number of the Boko Haram terrorists.
